    Bayoxide E33 Arsenic Removal Media – 20kg

    Bayoxide E33 is a specialist water treatment media designed for the effective removal of arsenic from water. The dry crystalline media is based on iron hydroxide technology and has been specifically formulated to provide a high arsenic removal capacity while remaining strong, reliable and easy to handle.

    Bayoxide was developed through work between Severn Trent Water and Bayer and is Regulation 31 approved for use in both municipal and private water supplies. The media provides long operating cycles and low operating costs, making it suitable for domestic, commercial and larger water treatment applications where arsenic contamination is present.

    During operation, water passes down through the Bayoxide media bed. Arsenic is captured and retained within the media while treated water passes through the system. Periodic backwashing removes accumulated sediment without removing the captured arsenic. Once the media reaches its arsenic holding capacity, it can be replaced with fresh media. Depending on the arsenic concentration and local water conditions, replacement may typically be required every couple of years.

    Bayoxide systems can also be combined with other water treatment processes where necessary. Sand filtration can be installed where turbidity is high, iron and manganese filtration can be used where these contaminants exceed the recommended limits, and pH correction can be incorporated where the incoming water has a low pH.

    The exhausted media is described as non-hazardous and can generally be disposed of to landfill, although local disposal regulations and conditions must always be checked.

    Recommended Raw Water Conditions

    For effective operation, the incoming water should meet the following conditions:

    - Iron: <200 µg/L
    - Manganese: <50 µg/L
    - Suspended solids: <10 mg/L
    - pH: 6.5–8.5
    - SiO₂: <40 mg/L
    - PO₄: <200 µg/L

    Water outside these parameters should be appropriately pre-treated before passing through the Bayoxide media.

    System Design Considerations

    Correct system sizing should take both normal water consumption and peak flow requirements into account. The PDF gives an average consumption figure of approximately 160 litres per person per day and notes that a family of four typically uses around 700 litres per day, with peak demand potentially reaching 300 litres within one hour.

    Where the arsenic concentration exceeds 50 µg/L, the document states that two treatment systems may be required in series in a lead/lag configuration. The first system removes the majority of the contamination, while the second acts as a polishing stage to remove the remaining arsenic.
